Not sure where else to post this.

I hope your GoFundMe campaign hits its goal. Have you advertised it on other astronomy forums, such as CloudyNights?

I don't know much about Cloudy Nights. I think you have to be a member and pay to advertise but not sure. I will do some checking on that tomorrow.

You don't have to pay just to post to one of the discussion forums.

Thank you Barry for that. Today I got sidetracked by one of my cats not doing so well. Was an all day affair and hopefully she will get better fast.

I second Jimmy Andrews bequest. But might suggest archiving the forums as a repository of collective knowledge as well. It would be a shame to wipe everything out.
Best wishes.

Jimmy,

I can't do that as the agreement that was made on the GoFundMe was to refund all donations if the campaign was unsuccessful. The way GoFundMe works if you end the campaign and it is declared unsuccessful all donators receive the refund. It doesn't matter anyway. The amount of money donated was way below expectations. I would have expected members to donate just the $20 and call it a day indicating that that would cover all the effort I put into it. But when I see such minimal support then I have to believe that this application is dead. If there are only 18 members out of 1500 donating that tells me that only 1.2% of the members are interested and the rest feel that $20 is too much to ask for. You wouldn't believe some of the messages I received saying something along the lines like this: "I'd hate to donate and find that the software will be closed down" or "I don't want to donate as I am not sure where it will go" or "I can't afford that right now", etc.. My God what has happened to our world these days. Well, anyway, you get the gist of it.

John,

It's unfortunate that you aren't able to recoup the amount of money you've invested into the application and website. It must be very frustrating and irritating to have sunk time and money into a venture that may not generate a return. I wish that weren't the case.

If I may make a suggestion:

Start a new GoFundMe campaign, or modify the current one. Lower the target amount to, say, $700. This will ensure that the campaign is successful and you're able to keep the money that is raised. Getting $700 would be better than getting nothing.

People would be more willing to donate to a campaign that's going to hit its target. You may end up pulling in more than the $770 you had originally received.

Just my $0.02. Please consider re-opening the campaign.

Jimmy,

As I read your message are you saying that you, yourself, would like to take the source, do the development, and also take the current forum, website, and Yahoo Groups?

I can't speak for Jimmy, but I, too, had hoped to do some development work on the application.

 Hello John

I'm a shade-Tree programmer and not qualified to take over.
I presently write simple bash and shell Linux scripts.

I'm better qualified and enjoy writing support Procedures, HowTo's and work arounds for present software.

Tried to write C# using TIS SDK in windows hoping to develop optical tracking but failed the last 2 attempts.
I have not gotten past displaying the coordinates (row/column) of a laser point on wall with TIS SDK in C#.
Keeps hanging after 10-15 seconds in continuous mode.

C++ programming knowledge is about 0.

I'm now trying to learn C++ with ZWO SDK and TIS SDK.

If you do release source code, I wish to help support development in my limited capacity.

My goal is for Satellite Tracker to eventually allow users to easily record a movie of the ISS passing over their backyard.

P.S. This morning (5:33 CDT) I watched the ISS approach from the NW to NE and depart in SE.
That always makes me smile and feel good inside.

Do you have the ability to work on the source code? If so, I will provide you details.

Hi John,
I am a bit confused. Is it going to be Open Source or not?
